Prague - Almost 10% of the population of the Czech Republic, or nearly one million people were intermittently without power on Saturday and Sunday because of extremely high winds that were clocked by meteorologists at up to 140 kilometers/hour (86 miles/hour). Falling trees were responsible for at least two deaths over the weekend. Severe thunderstorms also knocked out rail transportation and mobile telecommunications networks throughout the country.
